Thank You

This morning I was reminded that the deepest human need is Belonging.   And several things became clear for me.  It suddenly made sense why I have been having a rough week.  Why feelings from the past had surfaced unexpectedly.   Holidays are essentially about belonging.  We gather with friends and or family, often with varying degrees of feeling accepted.  But, the basic underlying truth is that, at least with families, we belong.  For better or worse we are part of a whole.  And at a primal level this belonging is essential.

One of the more painful consequences of divorce is the ruptured sense of belonging.   The loss of place in a group (family) adds to the grief experienced in losing place in a partnership.

It was these awarenesses that gave name to the pain I've been feeling.  Or, have been trying to avoid feeling,  if I were to be honest.   Fortunately,  with awareness the feelings  could no longer be avoided. And, in the midst of experiencing the grief, a wonderful thing happened.   I thought of all the people who in the aftermath of my divorce reached out to me and showed up for me.   Their kindness and support, conveyed that I belonged.  There were several people in my life whose love or kindness made a huge difference for me.   I am blessed,  I am so fortunate and I am Grateful.   If you are reading this, you are one of the people that made a world of difference.   And, I'm grateful for your presence in my life.  THANK YOU.
